The National Unity Government (NUG)
- In Wetlet Township of Sagaing Region, there was fighting between the revolutionary forces and the junta army in the west of Kanphyu Village. According to Madayar Township People’s Defence Force, both sides had heavy losses.
- In Setoattara Township, the military junta has been arranging the election by force. On Thursday, the PDF warned the public to stay away from the junta army.
- The forces under the Ministry of Defence-NUG had raided two inspection camps of Burma National Revolutionary Army led by Bo Nagar. Regarding it, U Nay Phone Latt, the spokesperson of Union Prime Minister Office-NUG, stated that there might be action against disturbance to the rule of law and administration in the areas under the control of the NUG.
- In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, Tun Win, who had been spying on revolution forces, was shot dead.
- In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, there was an attack on the junta army stationed in Nyaungbinthar Village. Reportedly, there were a large number of casualties among the junta soldiers and weapons were confiscated.
Revolution Activities
- In Kyaukdagar Township of Bago Region, the revolution forces attacked and seized control of some junta army camps in Tawgwe-In, a town on Yangon-Mandalay Old Road.
- According to Justice for Myanmar, Meta removed over 1,000 Facebook pages, groups and accounts related to MyTel, telecom service owned by the junta army led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
- The junta troop from Regiment 101 based in Pakkoku set fire to Kanyatgyi Village. Reportedly, more than 200 houses were burnt to ashes.
- Tom Andrews, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, called on the international community to sharply reject the junta’s election.
- In Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region, there was a mine attack on a military truck. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
- In Nyaung-U Township of Mandalay Region, there was a guerrilla attack on the junta army on their way to invade the area. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated.
- In Nattalin Township, Zeegone Township and Minhla Township of Bago Region, there were simultaneous attacks on the junta camps. Reportedly, 40 junta soldiers died.
Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)
- In Chin State, Chin Brotherhood stated that there would be action against prisoners of war, including the junta soldiers caught in the battle to seize Kennedy Peak, in accordance with the law.
- Karen National Union (KNU) stated that the declaration of Kawthoolei Army in regards to their establishment of Kawthoolei Republic does not reflect the goal of Karen national revolution or it is not relevant to reality.
- According to Chin National Defence Force, 14 junta soldiers fled from the troop invading Falam and defected to Chin revolution forces.
- Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army stated that they had been able to regain full control over Kokang Area and Monekoe District in Special Region (1) of Myanmar. In addition, Theinni and Kutkhine have also been liberated areas, which are free from junta soldiers.
The Military Commission
- In Pantaung Township with heavy fighting in Bago Region, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing called to vote for those who would join hands with the military and to work for high voter turnouts.
- U Lwin Myint, a candidate of the People’s Party contesting the junta’s election, was sentenced to one year in prison, along with hard labour, under the charge of violating the election campaign law.
- In Mandalay, the junta’s Chief Minister led a campaign for high voter turnouts in the second phase of the election on January 11.
- In Karen State, oil crops are increasingly grown for sufficient oil in the area. Reportedly, it was planned for 76,923 acres of winter oil crops for 2025-2026 fiscal year.
- In Hsin Paungwe Township of Magway Region, the military junta has been arranging the second phase of the election.
- In Kyonemangay of Ayeyarwady Region, the junta’s Minister for Immigration and Population, and his wife cast their advance vote.
- Pyin Oo Lwin Management and Administration Committee announced that there would be effective action against illegal use of the land in Pyin Oo Lwin Township of Mandalay Region.
- Due to heavy fighting around Tawgywe-In in Bago Region, No. (8) Naypyidaw-Yangon train service, scheduled for 12:00 pm on January 9, had to be cancelled.
