Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

Spring Revolution Daily News for 5 January 2026

The National Unity Government (NUG)

-In Kantbalu Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing. According to Local People’s Administration, a child aged 3 and his parents lost their lives and 7 other local people were injured.

-The Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the NUG sent a statement to the 78th Independence Day. They stated that it is necessary to join hands with unity to put an end to the dictatorship.

-Mandalay People’s Defence Force apologized to the public as they had to withdraw from the three towns they had seized. On Saturday, they stated that they would keep fighting to regain control.

-In Kantbalu Township of Sagaing Region, Local People’s Administration burnt confiscated narcotic substances.

-In the military progress report for 2025, Ministry of Defence-NUG stated that they intend to create the aspired revolution paradigm systematically in 2026 in accordance with the context.

-According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, they have been trying to gain control over Sittaung River Basin, Yangon-Mandalay Old Road Section and Mon-Tanintharyi No. (8) Union Road.

-On the 78th Independence Day, the NUG pledged that along with ethnic alliance and revolution forces, they would keep moving until the end of the military dictatorship.

Revolution Activities

-In the statement on the 78th Independence Day, the US State Department called on Myanmar’s military junta to free those in arbitrary detention and stop the violence.

-On Sunday, the Upcountry Combined Force stated that their comrades had completed training on better military performance.

-On the Independence Day, the military junta declared amnesty for over 6,000 prisoners. Reportedly, political prisoners were not included.

-In Yay Township of Mon State, there was a guerrilla attack on a car of 5 junta soldiers from Regiment (19). Reportedly, 4 of them including a captain were injured.

-On the 78th Independence Day, the Australian Embassy expressed their respect for Myanmar people for their courage and resilience.

-In Kantbalu Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army carried out an airstrike on Methi Village. Reportedly, 3 people lost their lives and 7 others were injured.

-From Entrepreneurship for Future Livelihood Programme, the People’s Goal provided capitals for CDM soldiers, police and their families.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

-In Chin State, it has been nearly one month since Chin forces have been fighting the junta army invading Falam Township.

The Military Commission

-On Sunday morning, the military junta declared amnesty for 6,134 prisoners.

-In the junta’s newspapers on Saturday, the Union Election Commission announced that the Union Solidarity and Development Party had won (52) out of (56) constituencies included in the first phase of the election.

-U Ye Htut, former Minister for Information, was one of those who had received amnesty on Independence Day.

-The military junta presented honorary titles to deceased authors; P Moe Nin (U Moe Hnin), Thaitpan Maung Wa (U Sein Tin), Tat Toe, Thein Phay Myint (U Thein Phay), Lutu U Hla, Lutu Daw Amar, Dagon Taryar (U Htay Myaing), Mya Than Tint and Tatkatho Bhone Naing (U Khin Maung Tint).

-The junta’s Labour Department extended the deadline for the Certificate of Identity (CI) in Thailand.

-The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that all the stakeholders must cooperate and follow the commitments contained in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) for eternal peace.
