Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

Myanmar military leader confers honorary titles on prominent film stars during Independence Day celebrations

Myanmar’s military leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, has awarded honorary titles to prominent film actors Nay Toe, Phway Phway and Wut Hmone Shwe Yee, according to an announcement by the Military Commission on 4 January.

“The following individuals, recognized for their service to the nation, contributions to the country, and outstanding performance in national defense and security duties, have been awarded honourary titles and medals,” the statement said.

In addition to the film actors, Military Commission spokesperson Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun was also awarded an honorary title.

The military leader conferred the Union Sithu Thingaha and Sithu titles on 28 individuals, including directors U Thu Kha and Maung Tin Oo, Military Commission spokesperson Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, and actors Kyi Kyi Htay, Nyunt Win, Wa Wa Win Shwe, Khin Than Nu, Kyaw Hein, Cho Pyone, Swe Zin Htike, Moh Moh Myin Aung, Yan Aung, May Than Nu, Nay Toe and Pyay Ti Oo.

Actors Shwe Ba, Tun Wai, U Kyauk Lone, Khin Yu May, Kyaw Swe, Daisy Kyaw Win, Ant Kyaw, Zaw Wan, Nay Aung, Khin Thidar Tun, Lwin Moe, May Thinzar Oo, Tun Eaindra Bo, Lu Min, Soe Myat Thuzar, Eaindra Kyaw Zin, Phway Phway and Wut Hmone Shwe Yee were also granted the Alanka Kyaw Swar titles.

A total of 52 individuals received the Alanka Kyaw Swar titles, including renowned writer and journalist Ludu U Hla, Ludu Daw Amar, writer Mya Than Tint, writers and journalists Tha Ga Do and U Thein Pe (Thein Pe Myint), writers U Htay Myaing (Dagoon Taya), U Kyin Swe (Thaw Dar Swe), U Tin (Dagoon Shwe Mya), U Moe Hnin (Pi Moe Hnin), U Sein Tin (Science Maung Wa), writer Daw Khin Mya (Khin Myo Chit), writer and journalist Daw Tin Hlaing (Journal Kyaw Ma Ma Lay), and writer U Khin Maung Tint (Tekkatho Phone Naing).

Also included was U Chit Naing (Psychology), who served as Minister of Information for the Military Commission and as Minister of the Union Government Office (2) during the coup.

To date, the Military Commission has awarded more than 280 honorary titles and medals. Dramatic artist U Chit Myo Htike, known as Phoe Chit, was also presented with the Distinguished Artist Award (First Class).

Since the coup, the military leader has handed out numerous honourary titles and medals to artists and directors, and has more recently extended the awards to include artists and writers who have died, as well as those who were imprisoned during the coup.
