Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Paukkaung Township of Bago Region, People’s Defence Force under Strategic Unit (21) conducted a mine attack on a junta convoy on mobile patrol. Reportedly, there were casualties in the incident.
  • In Hsinpaungwe Township of Magway Region, there was an attack on the junta army on patrol. Reportedly, 2 guns were confiscated.
  • In Salin Township with increased military momentum in Magway Region, the PDFs raided the junta’s departments in the town of Hsinphyugyun on Thursday, according to the NUG.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG stated that the alliance of the PDFs had been constantly fighting the junta base camps in Magway Region.
  • On Nautmauk-Pyawbwe Old Road, the PDF fired at a car of 3 junta soldiers, who had driven away without being inspected. Reportedly, 2 junta members including an officer died.
  • In the military progress report for 2025 by the Ministry of Defence-NUG, it was mentioned that there were 7,139 battles between the junta army and the revolution forces in 2025, killing 9,549 junta soldiers.
  • The most significant progress of the PDF in 2025 was the strong establishment of Unified Command nationwide.
  • In Paukkaung Township of Bago Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army on their way to take security measures at the polling station in Bawdigone Village. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and 3 others were injured.
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG stated that the comrades of the PDFs had better military skills in 2025; from short guerrilla warfare to prolonged fighting to seize camps and towns.
  • The NUG and Mandalay Interim Governing Council discussed the matters regarding collection of taxes from untaxed extraction businesses of natural resources in the region and action plans for the swift victory of the revolution.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local strike committees from four townships protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In Hleku Township of Yangon Region, Yangon Army conducted an attack via powerful mines on the junta’s District General Administration Department.
  • In Wetlet Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army carried out aerial bombings on local villages in December. Reportedly, 26 people including children lost their lives and over 40 others were injured.
  • In Pwint Phyu Township of Magway Region, the junta’s administration team was shot in Kyaunggyigone Village. Reportedly, 4 members died.
  • Yaw Army, a revolution force in Magway Region, stated that the Arakan Army (AA) had provided close supervision and support to them.
  • The commanders and members of the AA were present at the event on the anniversary of the establishment of the Bamar Army.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Mone Township under Karen National Union, 3 new soldiers from the junta army defected to Regiment (8) of Karen National Liberation Army Brigade (3).
  • The Chair of Chin Brotherhood’s Military Affairs Committee apologized to the public as they were unable to seize Tedim in Chin State in 2025 despite their pledge. He added that they will stay committed to the mission in the new year.
  • In the area under the KNLA Brigade (4) of the KNU (Myeik-Dawei District), there have been ongoing protests against the junta’s election.
  • In 14 townships of Rakhine State and Paletwa Township controlled by the Arakan Army, traffic rules have been tightly in place.

The Military Commission

  • In Magway Region, Hsinpaungwe Township is included in the second phase of the election. Reportedly, the junta’s Fire Brigade inspected fire security measures at polling stations and neighbouring areas, and conducted educational campaigns on the streets.
  • In honour of the 78th Independence Day, Myanmar Postal Service will sell two new kinds of stamps.
  • On behalf of the military junta, Union Minister Tin Aung San signed in condolences for the loss of the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
  • In Pyinmanar, Naypyidaw, there was a fire in Yan Aung Ward (2). Reportedly, the junta’s Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture met with 308 fire victims staying at Dabaung Ground.
  • In Yatsaut Township of Southern Shan State, the construction of Kyaingkan Reservoir Multi-Project is almost fully completed in 2025-2026 fiscal year.
  • On Friday, the junta’s Union Election Commission announced that they had transparently carried out the activities such as advance voting, ballot counting, data collecting and announcing related to the election.
  • Starting from Thursday morning, the responsible personnel of (48) polling stations cast their advance votes in Minhla Township, included in the second-phase election in Magway Region on January 11.
