Thailand-based Assistance Association of Political Prisoners-Burma (AAPP) General-Secretary Teik Naing and Joint General-Secretary Bo Kyi are scheduled to arrive in Burma on January 5 after many years in exile.

“Our names have been taken off the blacklist and the government authorities assured us that they would make arrangements for our visit,” Teik Naing told Mizzima.

Former political prisoners themselves, Teik Naing and Bo Kyi helped found the organization in 2000. AAPP compiles a detailed list of all political prisoners in Burma, creates awareness and advocates their release.

According to the latest AAPP figures, 218 political activists remain behind bars in Burma.
