Rangoon (Mizzima) – An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck about 90 miles northeast of Myitkyina in northwest Burma at 4:28 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Burma Earthquake Survey Center in Naypyitaw.
The quake hit about 80 miles southeast of Khonsa, India. It was the first earthquake in August following six small earthquakes that jolted Burma in July.
The U.S. Geological Survey put the earthquake center at latitude 26.072 N and longitude 96.322 E.
