New Delhi (Mizzima) - Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is glad that her party the National League for Democracy (NLD) decided unanimously not to register with the Election Commission.
Suu Kyi conveyed this to her lawyers today when they went to her residence this afternoon to discuss the special appeal case against the court verdict on her house arrest.

“Daw Suu conveyed to her party that she was glad about her party’s decision on March 29 not to register, without any dissent at the meeting. She also agreed with the ‘Appeal to People’ statement issued yesterday. She asked all party members to stand together firmly and unitedly,” lawyer Nyan Win who met her told Mizzima.

About 100 party central committee members and party central executive committee members assembled at the party headquarters in Rangoon on March 29 to discuss threadbare the party’s registration issue.

It took a decision not to register the party with the Election Commission. Incidentally, this was in keeping with the Nobel Peace Laureate’s wishes, though she had made it clear that she did not want to impose her wish on party members.

In the ‘Appeal to People’ statement issued yesterday, the NLD apologized to the country for its failure in ushering in democracy and national reconciliation in the past 20 years. The party pledged not to abandon its democratic struggle and the people and continue the struggle under the leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi non-violently.

Lawyers Nyan Win and Kyi Win met her today at her residence from 1 to 3 p.m. and discussed her appeal case, temporary injunction case on her house repair and applications for house renovation.

“We gave five reasons for the appeal case to her and discussed it. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi agreed with all of them. But we discussed more acutely on two other points, two rulings which we believe are more important. She asked us to bring the copies of the rulings,” lawyer Nyan Win said.

The Rangoon Division Court dismissed the application for temporary injunction yesterday filed by her elder brother Aung San Oo objecting to the renovation of her home.

“We told her that we must apply to the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) when we get the copy of the court order. She instructed us to continue with the process,” lawyer Nyan Win said.

Aung San Suu Kyi talked to them about other matters like the current political situation but they would not disclose these in detail, Nyan Win said.
