New Delhi (Mizzima) - Four representatives of the Union Democracy Alliance (UDA), a Burmese political group, keen to contest the general elections this year, met diplomats from Britain, France, Italy and Germany at the German embassy in Rangoon on Friday in a not too conducive ambience.
“We briefed them about our objectives, and answered their questions. However, we are dissatisfied with the meeting because they asked meaningless questions such as the group’s membership strength,” UDA’s senior organising member Ohn Shwe said.
“It is not realistic to estimate our group’s strength at this juncture as the junta is yet to announce the electoral law and we are not even a legal political entity as yet,” he added.
The four UDA committee members, who met the four European diplomats include veteran ethnic Shan politician Ohn Shwe, and Thein Than Aung, Nay Myo Wai and Ko Ko Gyi.
The UDA said, it is at an organisational stage, and since the electoral law is yet to be announced and the group is not registered as a political party, it is difficult to determine the strength of the group.
