Spring Revolution Daily News for 29 January 2026

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Ministry of Social, Labour and Humanitarian Affairs-NUG published information about the Nipa virus, with a fatality rate of over 40%, which is now spreading in India. 
  • In Salin Township of Magway Region, the People’s Defence Forces provided support to the displaced people. 
  • According to Ministry of Education-NUG, students can apply for university entrance at the interim universities for the people for the 2026-2027 academic year. 
  • In Myaing Township of Magway Region, there was an attack on the junta camp in Linkataw Village. Reportedly, there were casualties among the junta soldiers. 
  • In Yetashay Township of Bago Region, there were rocket attacks on the junta army stationed at Kyweyainpyin Bridge and the school in Kyungtawgone Village. According to Nay Pyi Taw Regional Command of the PDF, there were casualties among the junta members. 

Revolution Activities 

  • Meta removed 270 Facebook pages and groups associated with the propaganda and businesses of the Myanmar military junta. Justice for Myanmar urged other technological companies to do the same. 
  • The ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights strongly condemned the election staged by the military junta in Myanmar and the announcement of the army-proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party as the winner. 
  • At the International Court of Justice, a lawyer from Gambia stated that Myanmar military had destroyed the evidence related to genocide against Rohingya people and had failed to cooperate with the international community. 
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, the junta army conducted drone attacks and set ablaze Ywar Thit Village, Kyaingkhargone Village and Maubin Village. 
  • The Committee to Protect Journalists strongly condemned physical assaults against Myanmar journalist Ko Myat Thu Kyaw detained in Insein Prison of Yangon. They also called for his immediate release. 
  • In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, the revolution forces cleared the mines set by the junta army. 
  • The People’s Goal supported rice and oil to the families of CDM soldiers and police in Delhi, India. 
  • A combined rally of local strike committees carried out a movement- “We did not vote in the junta’s 2025 election.” 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Falam Township of Chin State, there was fighting between Chin forces and the junta troop on their way to strengthen their army. Reportedly, the military junta carried out 11 aerial bombings. 
  • Karenni National Progressive Party conducted their first Central Committee meeting and elected the Executive Committee members including Vice-Chair. 
  • Karen National Liberation Army Special Force stated that they would resume attacks on the junta army as soon as they get the chance and thus, the public were to stay away from the junta stations. 
  • According to Karen National Union (Central), the military junta carried out an airstrike via fighter jet on Kwila Village of Kyaukgyi Township in Bago Region. Reportedly, a child aged 7 lost their life and 3 other children were injured. 

The Military Commission 

  • Lieutenant General Phone Myat, previously the military’s Adjutant General, was appointed as Minister for Home Affairs. 
  • On Tuesday, the junta’s Prime Minister Nyo Saw claimed that the entire process of the junta’s election with three phases had been implemented justly and transparently. 
  • The junta’s Prime Minister said that the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) still plays a crucial role in the peace process and it is necessary to apply its principles. 
  • Myanmar and Pakistan discussed to promote cooperation in various sectors such as the economy, trade, agriculture, livestock, energy, travel and culture. 
  • The military junta transferred back another 22 foreigners from 10 countries, who had involved in telecom frauds and other online gambling, to their respective countries. 
  • The junta’s Myanmar Railway will sell tickets via Online Railways Ticketing and Payment System, starting from February 1. 
  • The junta’s Commander-in-Chief (Navy), Admiral Zeya Kyaw Htin Htein Win, said that due to the skills and dedication of naval engineers and personnel, the Myanmar Navy has successfully built a 3,500-ton frigate along with various other types of naval vessels. 
  • Myanmar and Thailand discussed financial cooperation for trade and investment between the two countries. 
  • The junta’s Myanmar Ambassador to China met with the ASEAN-China Centre Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Shi Zhongjun. Reportedly, they exchanged views on future cooperation between China and Myanmar.
