The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Mandalay Region, Myingyan District Force (2) caught a militia member in charge of security at a polling station in Myingyan, along with weapons.
  • In Paukkaung Township of Bago Region, 55 junta soldiers died in battles for ten days, according to the People’s Defence Force.
  • U Nay Phone Latt, the spokesperson of Union Prime Minister Office-NUG, stated that there had been meetings between the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair to Myanmar Ms. Ma Theresa P Lazaro and a representative of the NUG.
  • In Natthankwin Township of Bago Region, the revolutionary forces conducted an attack via heavy weapons on a junta security outpost on January 22.
  • In local battles for ten days in Paukkaung Township, voter lists were burnt in addition to 55 fatalities among junta soldiers, according to Pyi District PDF (2).
  • In Myaung Township of Sagaing Region, there was an attack via heavy artillery on Kyaukyit Police Station. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.

Revolution Activities

  • Bangladesh slammed Myanmar over the portrayal of the Rohingya people as Bengalis at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
  • The Special Envoy of the United Nations Human Rights Council to Myanmar called on the international community to sharply reject the results of the final phase of the junta’s election.
  • Illinois State Northern District Court suspended the decision of the U.S. government to revoke the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Myanmar citizens.
  • Muslims of Myanmar Multi-ethnic Consultative Committee expressed their objection to the Islamic groups in support of Myanmar military junta on trial at the ICJ.
  • On Friday, Federal Wings, a drone force fighting the junta army, issued an open letter to their former members and the public, along with the respect and acknowledgement for the sacrifice of old comrades.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, there was a rocket attack on the junta’s gate in Inbin Village.
  • In London, UK, members of the Myanmar community rallied for a protest against the military junta in front of the Myanmar Embassy.
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, Broken System bombed the junta’s administration office in Paukkone Ward.
  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, a local rally and the PDF conducted a protest against the junta’s sham election, chanting slogans, at key places in town.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Nyaunglebin District, 3 civilians lost their lives and 3 others were injured due to the junta’s attacks via mortars, drones and gyrocopters, according to the Karen National Union.
  • After the commander of the junta’s Regiment (22) ordered the Karen National Army to leave Myawaddy, the KNA members started to leave the town.
  • Chit Ko Zin, a conscripted soldier caught by the Arakan Army, stated that conscripted soldiers were being discriminated against in the junta army and they were made to fight in the frontline on the battlefield. Consequently, more than half of conscripted soldiers died in frontline battles.
  • In Special Area (1) of Northern Shan State, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army has been making the Secondary Road of Laukkaing-Chinshwehaw. Reportedly, it will soon be completed.

The Military Commission

  • Major General Aung Kyaw Kyaw was transferred back to military duty from the position as the junta’s Deputy Minister for Home Affairs.
  • General Min Thu, Deputy CEO of Military Security and Investigation, was appointed as Deputy Minister for Home Affairs.
  • After losing in the junta’s election, Daw Lwin Lwin Mar, a candidate of People’s Party led by U Ko Ko Gyi, submitted her letter of resignation to the party.
  • The military junta stated that delegates from India, Belarus, Indonesia, Nepal, Cambodia and Nicaragua had arrived to observe the final phase of the election scheduled to be held on January 25.
  • For the youth outside of schooling for various reasons, the junta’s Deputy Minister for Education called to work for Non-Formal Primary Education and Non-Formal Middle Education programmes.
  • Myanmar and India discussed to promote trade between the two countries.
  • The Chair of the junta’s Central Bank said that managing old loans which fail to repay and issuing new loans would support and strengthen the financial system and bring about economic development.
  • In honour of the 79th Union Day, MSME expo, including over 100 booths, will be held in Naypyidaw.  
  • The junta’s spokesperson Zaw Min Tun claimed that they would set five policies, including a complete war against illegal drugs, to combat and prevent the sale and use of drugs.
