Spring Revolution Daily News for 20 January 2026

The National Unity Government (NUG)

-In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, revolutionary forces conducted a guerrilla attack on the junta’s gate in Pauktaw Village at 6:45 am on January 16.

-In Mandalay Region, a second police sergeant named Myo Min Aung from the junta’s Kana Police Station was arrested along with weapons, according to Sintkaing Township People’s Defence Force.

-NUG Support Team Japan announced that a public protest against the Myanmar military coup would be conducted in Tokyo on February 1, the 5th anniversary.

-Ministry of Social, Labour and Humanitarian Affairs-NUG stated that nighttime temperature would continue to fall in northern and eastern Kachin State as well as in northern and eastern Shan State. They added that there might be fog all over the country.

-At the regular coordination meeting of Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw on January 16, the Ministry of Federal Union Affairs-NUG presented about their activities and action plan.

-In Kyungsu Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a guerrilla attack on the junta army invading the area. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died.

Revolution Activities

-In Sagaing Township, 10 junta soldiers died whereas a comrade of the revolution forces lost his life in an attack at the junta’s inspection gate in Pauktaw Village.

-In Minbu (Saku) Township of Magway Region, the revolutionary forces raided the junta’s Monetaung Police Station on the morning of January 16. Reportedly, a junta troop of about 150 soldiers has been invading and burning nearby villages.

-Kachin Human Rights Watch stated that justice had not been brought yet to the rape and murder case of two teachers from Kachin Baptist Convention in Panseng (Kyugoke) Township of Northern Shan State even after more than ten years and the truth still had been hidden.

-In the south of Ngape Township in Magway Region, the revolution forces managed to destroy about 30 acres of poppy plantation.

-In Taungdwingyi Township of Magway Region, Soe Hlaing, allegedly a junta’s informant in Thit Kote Gwin Village, was shot dead on the morning of January 17.

-In California, United States, Free Burma Action Committee – Northern California showed the movie “The Harsh Journey”, combining the short documentaries portraying the on-the-ground reality and fighting of the PDF, CDM staff and Myanmar people in the Spring Revolution.

-In Salin Township of Magway Region, the junta army invading the area arrested 9 locals and set ablaze 5 local villages.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

-Reportedly, over 1,000 Chinese nationals have been trapped in Deeko Park, an online scam compound, led by Colonel Saw El Le Htoo, son of a patron of Democratic Karen Buddhist Army Saw Sti. They have also reportedly been ill-treated on a daily basis.

-U Banyar, Joint Secretary of Interim Executive Council, stated that the search was still ongoing for the junta members who had escaped from Mese Prison in Karenni State.

The Military Commission

-José Ramos-Horta, the President of East Timor, met with the Chin Human Rights Organization which will sue the Myanmar military regime at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Timor-Leste. Regarding it, the military junta stated that it was interfering with Myanmar’s internal affairs and thus, strongly condemned such action.

-In Kyaingtone of Eastern Shan State, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing inspected the construction site of Lawka Tharafu Stupa.

-The Russian government submitted a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) agreement on the promotion and protection of investments between Russia and Myanmar to the State Duma for ratification.

-The junta’s Minister for Health called to work for better development of the Fertility Centre.

-The junta’s Central Bank will reportedly sell 30 million Baht to importers on the foreign currency market.

-The military junta provided financial support to the victims of the explosion in Myawaddy on the night before the junta’s first-phase election.

-The junta’s Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation stated that the public were not to use illegal power supply, move power meters without permission or use illegal meters. They added that there would be legal action against those who fail to follow the rules, ranging from a fine of 100,000 MMK up to 10-year imprisonment.

-The junta’s Economics Minister of Yangon Region said that it was necessary for investors to increase production and expend trade networks by using modern technology.
