(Mizzima) – Two days before she accepts her Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Aung San Suu Kyi will speak to a U.N. labor conference in Geneva on June 14, the head of the U.N. labor office said on Tuesday.
“This will be the first place where she will speak internationally after leaving Myanmar,” Juan Somavia, the ILO’s director-general, told the Associated Press.
Suu Kyi will go from Geneva to Norway, where she will deliver her acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize, awarded nearly 21 years ago. Her eldest son, Alexander Aris, had accepted the peace prize on her behalf during the 1991 ceremony.
Suu Kyi received her first passport in 24 years earlier this month after spending 15 years of the last 21 years under house arrest.
