White House confirms Obama visit to Burma

The White House has confirmed that newly re-elected President Barack Obama will travel to Bangkok, Rangoon and Phnom Penh from November 17-20.

“In Thailand, he will meet with Prime Minister Yingluck to mark 180 years of diplomatic relations and reaffirm the strength of our alliance,” a statement said. “In Burma, the President will meet with President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi and speak to civil society to encourage Burma’s ongoing democratic transition.”

Obama is scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit in Cambodia where he will meet with ASEAN leader.
