The EC allocated 6 million euros to help people affected by the violence and dislocation of up to 50,000 refugees.

A report prepared on the sectarian unrest by the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) of the EC said that around 700,000 Rohingya Muslims were the victims of “racism and discrimination.”

The report said that Rohingya Muslims were deprived of citizenship rights and were subject to discrimination by the authorities in Burma.

The situation in Arakan State necessitates urgent care and half of the population there faces a serious lack of food or starvation, the report said.

It said there is only one doctor per 300,000 individuals in some parts of Arakan. Around 500,000 people have been displaced in recent years due to acts of violence in Arakan, the report said.
