Yangon FC to tour Thailand

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – The Yangon United Football Club owned by business tycoon Tayza is all set to play friendly matches from August 20 to 26 with football clubs in Thailand.

The friendly matches are to be held as part of a process through which players will be selected for the forthcoming Myanmar National League Tournament to begin on September 5.

“These will be friendly matches, where we can witness the skills of our players. It is testing the skills of our players abroad. And looking at the matches, the Yangon United FC will select players,” Aung Kyaw Lwin, manager of the club told Mizzima.

The Yangon United FC will leave Rangoon for Thailand on August 20 and on the same day play the first friendly match against Thai Port FC.

On August 24 Yangon United will play against Pattaya United Club and on August 26, before winding up the trip, will play against BEC Tero Sasana F.C.

To allow prospective Burmese players to gain international experience by sending them to foreign clubs, an agreement was signed at Rangoon’s Espace Avenir in Hledan Township between Yangon United and Thailand’s BEC Tero Sasana on August 16.

The “Strategic Alliance Signing” ceremony was between Yangon United’s President Pyea Phyo Tayza and Tero Sasana’s General Manager Anan Anpruang in the presence of both chairmen Tayza of Yangon United and Brain Marcar of BEC Tero Sasana.

The Yangon United FC is also reportedly planning to set up a football training school in Rangoon for youths with the help of Tero Sasana Club.

In the first season of the Myanmar National League, which concluded in June, the Yadanabon FC, which represents Burma’s second largest city of Mandalay, won the cup with a clean sheet beating the Yangon United FC in the final match.

The second season of the MNL is due to begin at Rangoon’s Thuwana Stadium on September 5, with the Yangon United FC playing against Delta United in the opening match.

Aung Kyaw Lwin, manager of the club said, Yangon United has several foreign players including six from the Ivory Coast and two from Cameroon.

While the club refused to reveal the money doled out to the foreign players, Myo Myint Tun is the highest paid Burmese player with Kyat 1 million (USD 1,000 approximately) per month. And the lowest pay for a domestic player is Kyat 300,000 (USD 300 approximately).

Sources said, so far the club has spent over Kyat 500 million (USD 500,000 approximately).
