Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – Four schools, two markets and three quarters are inundated following three days of heaving rain in Ye in Mon State. On Sunday, 12.6 inches of rain was recorded, according to the Meteorology and Hydrology Department in Naypyitaw.
The Aungthida and Myathida markets closed on Sunday. Flooding inundated the Aungmingala, Aungthukha and Aungmetta quarters. Other quarters including Thirinanda and Yangyiaung have also been flooded. A high school and three primary schools were closed.
A resident in Yangyiaung quarter said that about 2,000 houses are flooded. Volunteers are distributing packets of steamed rice and curries to flood victims. Displaced residents, including children and the elderly, have taken refuge in monasteries and other areas.
A shop owner in Myathida market said that many vendors had successfully moved their property to safer locations because the water level rose gradually.
