New Zoo to open in Naypyidaw on Union Day

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – A new zoo, called Safari Garden, will open with jeep and bus tours and entertainment in Naypyidaw on Union Day, which falls on February 12 this year.

new-zoo-naypyidaw1Senior General Than Shwe is likely to preside during the  opening ceremony, according to reports.

The garden will feature  Asian, Australian and African tours, featuring various animals specific to the regions.

Safari Garden will have more than 200 species on display including kangaroos, ostriches, African deer, lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras, rhinoceroses and donkeys from countries around the world.  Sixty species were bought from the Netherlands alone.

The total area of  Safari Garden is 98 acres.

new-zoo-naypyidaw2Two mini-buses and six jeeps can be rented for sightseeing in the garden, according to the Myanmar Post Journal.

IGE Company Limited, owned by Ne Aung, a son of Industry (1) Ministery Aung Thaung, began work on the garden in September 2010.
