Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

List of new ministers to be appointed on Friday

Naypyidaw (Mizzima) – Burma’s president nominated 30 people on Wednesday to be appointed ministers in the new government, mostly retired and current military officers and businessmen. No women were included on the list.

Naypyidaw sources said the list, submitted by President Thein Sein, was approved 615 to 4 votes, according to a lawmaker. Fourteen lawmakers were absent or did not cast votes.

Among the new faces nominated as ministers were Tin San, the owner of ACE construction company; Dr. Pe Thet Tin, a retired professor from Rangoon Medical University (1); and Win Myint, a businessman in the oil industry and the chairman of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

On Friday, the 30 nominees will be appointed to various ministries to make up the new government, according to sources. Although many current ministers will be reappointed, they will probably be assigned to new ministries, according to lawmakers.

First ministerial meeting held

Mizzima Myanmar held the first meeting among newly appointed ministers after a recent major cabinet reshuffle by the military in capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Military True News Information Team Xinhua reported. The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, acting President U Myint Swe and nine newly appointed union ministers were present at the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, the release said. Min Aung Hlaing unveiled plans to include reopening religious buildings and pagodas, resuming domestic travel and hotel businesses as well as industries in line with COVID-19 rules and regulations, and revitalizing the country's economy.

Indonesia detains British woman on terror suspect list
