Teardkiat Shinsoranan, Mae Sot's mayor, said the delegation was surveying the area.
The visit followed the government's recent decision to develop the district into a special economic zone ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
The delegation was headed by Chen Zhou of CMC and Liu Dongmiao, of CGCI—two enterprises involved in city planning and the development of more than 40 special economic zones in China.
Mr Teardkiat said the visit was in line with the Thai-Chinese cooperation scheme to prepare for the AEC.
Mae Sot is considered one of the important commercial gateways to Myanmar and could become a model city under the AEC, he said.
Banpot Korkiatcharoen, chairman of the Tak provincial chamber of commerce, said interest from investors is growing following the government's decision to support the development.
