The Bangladesh government on Tuesday said reports of an attack on a mosque in Rakhine State in Burma were unfounded rumours.

The foreign ministry cautioned people “against reacting to such unfounded reports” following recent violence against Buddhist temples and homes in the Cox's Bazar area of Bangladesh.

The Burmese government has taken adequate precautionary measures to halt a possible backlash following the attacks on Buddhist temples, officials said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked people to remain alert to “provocations by vested quarters.”
