Spring Revolution Daily News for 17 February 2026

The National Unity Government (NUG)

-The military junta instructed Mr. Elisio do Rosario de Sousa, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Timor-Leste, to leave Myanmar no later than February 20. Regarding it, the NUG expressed their strong condemnation.

-Daw Zin Mar Aung, Union Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG, attended Munich Security Conference held in Germany.

-In Pyi Township of Bago Region, Nga Tun, a member of the junta’s Pyusawti Militia who had been recruiting local people in Sisonegonegyi Village by force for conscription, was shot dead at a cock-fighting game.

-In Boatpyin Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a battle between the junta army and the revolutionary forces on Thai-Myanmar border, according to People’s Defence Force.

-At 2:00 pm on Sunday, there was a meeting (1/2026) via video conferencing between the Interim Government of Sagaing Federal Unit and the People’s Administration Teams in the Unit.

-According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the battalions and forces on the ground received bullet-proof vests and helmets bought through the campaign ‘Road to Mandalay’.

-On Sunday, there was a meeting (2/2026) between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration-NUG and People’s Administration Teams from Tanintharyi Region, Bago Region and Ayeyarwady Region.

Revolution Activities

-In Taungthar Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army set fire to the public’s houses in Pekhinkyaw Village. Reportedly, over 50 houses were burnt.

-In a report by Myanmar Internet Project on Saturday, it was mentioned that no fewer than 49 people had been arrested for their freedom of expression on social media platforms during the junta’s election in Myanmar.

-Reportedly, there will be a discussion of the SMES to promote cooperation and exchange experiences between Thailand and Myanmar.

-In recent days, there was fighting at Pekhinkyaw Village on Taungthar-Natoegyi Road.

-In Yangon Region, there was an attack via two powerful mines on the soldiers who were drunk at the security booth of the junta’s Mingaladone Myoma Police Station, according to Yangon Army.

-On Monday, the People’s Goal stated that basic food items had been provided to CDM soldiers, police and their families on the Thai-Myanmar border.

-In Nattalin Township of Bago Region, 10 junta soldiers died in local battles for two consecutive days.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

-On Monday, the junta propaganda media claimed that the junta army had regained Phasaung Township under the control of Karenni Revolution Forces in Karenni State. However, Karenni Nationalities Defence Force stated that there was still ongoing fighting on the ground.

-Wa State Prosecution took legal action against 2 officers of Wa Army for having hidden online scammers and helped them move away.

-The Chair of Karenni Nationalities Defence Force stated that the revolution forces had to withdraw from some battlefields in accordance with military tricks and strategies, avoiding confrontation not to lose comrades.

The Military Commission

-On Sunday, the junta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they had informed Mr. Elisio do Rosario de Sousa, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Timor-Leste, to leave Myanmar no later than February 20.

-In the meeting with community leaders in Hommalin Township on Sunday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the instability in some parts of Sagaing Region was related to poor education and there had been violent activities although political divides must be resolved by political means.

-In Tatgone of Naypyidaw, the 80th anniversary of the Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) was celebrated.  

-According to the Auditor of the Central Committee on Agriculture and Livestock under Pa-O National Organization (PNO), poppy cultivation has decreased in Mount Mene in Sisai Township of Shan State.

-The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it was necessary for local people to make an effort for the development of Hommalin Area.

-The junta’s Prime Minister Nyo Saw called the MRTV to try to be the fourth pillar which can serve the nation and the people.

-The junta propaganda team claimed that they had regained control over Phasaung, which had been temporarily seized by Karenni National Progressive Party, Karenni Nationalities Defence Force and the PDFs, on Sunday.
