Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

World Bank loans $165 million interest-free to Myanmar

Myanmar will receive an interest-free loan of US $165 million from the World Bank to conduct priority projects across the country, said Jin-Yong Cai, the Vice-President and CEO of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at a press conference in Yangon on February 5.

He said the IFC will prioritize large projects such as the power industry, because it is important for Myanmar to improve its electricity distribution.

An $80 million interest-free loan for community-based projects had previously been granted to Myanmar. World Bank representatives have said that Myanmar should repay the loans over the next 40 years.

First ministerial meeting held

Mizzima Myanmar held the first meeting among newly appointed ministers after a recent major cabinet reshuffle by the military in capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Military True News Information Team Xinhua reported. The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, acting President U Myint Swe and nine newly appointed union ministers were present at the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, the release said. Min Aung Hlaing unveiled plans to include reopening religious buildings and pagodas, resuming domestic travel and hotel businesses as well as industries in line with COVID-19 rules and regulations, and revitalizing the country's economy.

Indonesia detains British woman on terror suspect list

But she and her late husband are on an Indonesian police list of suspected extremists that includes several foreigners notorious in the West.
