On 20 February, Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) Chairman Salai Than Chun Pe declared that revolutionary forces would intensify operations to liberate the final two urban strongholds remaining under military junta control.
His remarks were made during an online ceremony held by the ICNCC at 7 p.m. on February 20 via Zoom to commemorate the 78th anniversary of Chin National Day.
“We will press ahead with the remaining town-seizure operations that have yet to be completed,” said Salai Than Chun Pe, adding that efforts are underway to ensure liberated areas do not fall back under military junta control.
Of the nine townships in Chin State, only Hakha and Tedim remain under military control, while the remaining townships have been seized by revolutionary forces and are now being administered by people’s authorities.
He said the Chin people’s right to self-determination and self-governance cannot be relinquished to others. He urged residents to safeguard stability in Chin State, calling on young people to recognize their responsibilities and step forward to serve.
Looking ahead, Salai Than Chun Pe said efforts will focus on fostering mutual respect and trust among individuals, organizations and ethnic groups, working collectively toward a shared vision of a Chin State where the Chin people shape their own destiny.
Chin revolutionary leaders and youth are playing a pivotal role in the resistance movement, said U Aung Kyi Nyunt, chairman of the Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), who attended the ceremony.
The Chin National Day ceremony, organized by the ICNCC, was attended by ICNCC members, the Chin Brotherhood, and officials from the CRPH, National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and the Spring Revolution Alliance (SRA).
U Aung Kyi Nyunt said efforts to build a federal democratic state will advance steadily through coordination and cooperation among the public and revolutionary forces at all levels, adding that the Chin region will stand as a proud testament to its own history.
Chin National Day was reportedly celebrated among Chin communities in multiple locations, including Yangon, as well as in Thailand, Malaysia, India, and other regions.
