Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

US tech firm to provide training in Myanmar

US communications giant Cisco has announced that it will collaborate with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to establish two networking academies to train Myanmar people for work in the IT industry.

"Cisco has a long track record of supporting the development of emerging economies through education, and the Cisco Networking Academy program will equip students in Burma [Myanmar] with industry relevant skills for the 21st century workforce, as they transform their country and their communities,” said Sandy Walsh, regional director of Cisco’s Social Innovation Group, in a statement.

The tech company said it has frequently collaborated with USAID on training projects like this and the announcement comes following a visit by a USAID delegation to Myanmar last week. During the visit, USAID administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah emphasized the importance of information and communications technology to expand economic opportunities in developing countries.

Cisco will donate equipment for labs and provide training for 15 staff to support the program.

First ministerial meeting held

Mizzima Myanmar held the first meeting among newly appointed ministers after a recent major cabinet reshuffle by the military in capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Military True News Information Team Xinhua reported. The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, acting President U Myint Swe and nine newly appointed union ministers were present at the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, the release said. Min Aung Hlaing unveiled plans to include reopening religious buildings and pagodas, resuming domestic travel and hotel businesses as well as industries in line with COVID-19 rules and regulations, and revitalizing the country's economy.

Indonesia detains British woman on terror suspect list
