US defense chief dismisses Russia, China as not a 'factor' in Iran war

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth dismisses China and Russia as non-factors in Washington's decision making when it comes to the war against Iran . HRM offers recommendations to NUG as it develops its National Human Rights Commission Law

Mizzima Human Rights Myanmar (HRM) has urged the National Unity Government (NUG) to strengthen its proposed National Human Rights Commission Law , warning that without key amendments, the independence and authority the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) needs to operate in a conflict setting could be lost. In a detailed legal analysis released on 25 February, HRM said the establishment of the National Human Rights Institution marks “an important step toward restoring the rule of law and dismantling the culture of impunity,” but that it requires significant revisions to meet international standards. The group grounded its recommendations in international human rights law and the Paris Principles , which are seen as benchmarks for the independence and effectiveness of national human rights institutions. Fuel shortages paralyze Myawaddy and Tachilek as Thai export ban and global energy crisis converge

Mizzima Fuel stations in the strategic border towns of Myawaddy and Tachilek halted operations on 3 March, as a Thai government ban on petroleum exports and surging global oil prices triggered a severe supply crunch. In Myawaddy, all major stations including PTT , Denko , and City closed by midday after a morning rush where some residents reportedly spent up to 30,000 baht (US$947) to secure remaining stocks. “Myawaddy is taking advantage of the situation. Early this morning, people lined up at PTT to buy up to 30,000-baht worth of fuel, but now all the stations are closed. Roadside fuel shops were already shut down last month,” a Myawaddy resident told Mizzima. The price of 92-octane gasoline in Myawaddy had been 4,850 kyats (US$2.31) per litre but increased to 5,390 kyats (US$2.57) per litre on 2 March. Burmese student recovers from H1N1 flu in India

The 23-year old Burmese student at the Spicer Memorial College in Pune in Maharashtra was admitted to hospital earlier this month and was treated for five days before he was discharged. “Doctors prescribed him H1N1 flu medicines for five days and he was later discharged. But he is still under medication and it will continue for about 15 days,” a friend of the youth studying in the same college told Mizzima. According to the friend, the youth rejoined college on August 3, following a visit to relatives in the United States. He was detected with high fever the next day, and was tested at the hospital, where he was declared infected with type A (H1N1) flu. Property prices shoot up in Rangoon

Speculators have pushed up the prices for prime residential, office and factory space, as investors line up to enter Burma’s developing economy. The National Unity Government (NUG) Reportedly, the NUG has been discussing with an alliance of four ethnic armed forces, K3C, for a cooperative leadership to raise the momentum of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution and gain victory.
