(Mizzima) – The Indian army chief on Thursday began a five-day trip to Burma to strengthen military ties and talk about issues affecting both countries.
Army Chief General V.K. Singh will meet with President Thein Sein, Burma’s commander-in-chief and other senior officials in the government, according to the IBN Live news website.
General Singh will also visit the country's National Defence College, Command and General Staff College and North Western Command headquarters. India will offer to increase the number of vacancies reserved for Burma’s gentlemen cadets in the National Defence Academy at Khadakvasla in Pune. I
Issues to be discussed include existing border mechanism between India and Burma. India will also offer road construction equipment to Burma to improve road conditions in border areas, the website said.
