New Delhi (Mizzima) – Thaung Shwe, the Planning and Economics minister in the Shan State government, has resigned on his own volition, according to the state-run newspaper New Light of Myanmar.
In an article on Tuesday, it said he was the first minister to resign from the cabinet in the new state government. The newspaper said that President Thein Sein signed an order saying he resigned on his own accord.
Thaung Shwe, a member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), was elected a member of the Lower House in the Kalaw Township Constituency No. 1.
On February 14, the Shan State chief minister nominated him for economics minister of the state government.
On July 1, in a state cabinet reshuffle, a presidential order changed his position to minister of Planning and Economics.
His resignation coincides with the time when the central government has faced criticism for not sharing power with region and state governments.
