New Delhi (Mizzima) – A book titled ‘Bibliography of Bogyoke Aung San’ which contains articles, speeches and biographies on Independence hero Aung San was released in Rangoon early in July.
Compiled by the late Soe Shein a.k.a. Maung Maung, it lists articles, speeches and books in chronological order including reference material on the volume and number of magazines and books in which the articles and speeches first appeared.
Writer Soe Shein was a former librarian. He died in 2008. The publishing house Hnit Kar La Myar sought permission from his wife and distributed the book. It is priced at 2,000 kyat (US$ 2.49) per copy.
“Saya Soe Shein published portions of the bibliography in Ngwe Tar Yi magazine and Myanmar Research Journal. More people are interested in Bogyoke Aung San now and the media atmosphere is freer than before so we publish the book now,” publisher Moe Way told Mizzima.
“The book contains all of his articles in Burmese and all of his speeches. This is the significance of the book. It is the most comprehensive listing of the collected works of Aung San. Some speeches are in summary. We hope the book will benefit the people to some extent,” he said.
The book has about 180 pages broken into two parts. The first part is for collected works of the bogyoke (general) such as his speeches, papers and articles, totaling about 130 pieces. The second part is for articles by other writers totaling about 140 pieces.
There are about 260 items listed in the book. “Most of the published articles written by him and written about him are included in the book,” publisher Moe Way said.
Writer Maung Sein Ni told Mizzima that he recently published a similar book titled ‘Writer Ko Aung San’ containing articles about Aung San.
The censor board didn’t make any changes on the book, ‘Bibliography of Bogyoke Aung San.’
More than 10 books written about Aung San were published in 2010-2011, Saya Maung Sein Ni said.
“A certain shift has taken place now. It’s time to encourage openness. I think this is the good sign for us,” he said.
