State-owned newspapers shifting to new capital

New Delhi (Mizzima) - State-owned newspapers in military-ruled Burma are preparing to shift offices from the former capital city of Rangoon to the newly built jungle capital of Naypyitaw in the central region of the country, sources in the Ministry of Information said.

The Burmese language ‘Myanmar Ahlin’, ‘The Mirror’ and the English newspaper ‘New Light of Myanmar’ will be shifted this week. The news papers are to start publishing from Naypyitaw on Wednesday.

The Chief Editors of the newspapers are also being transferred to Naypyitaw. Only some Assistant Editor level staff and a few reporters will continue to stay in Rangoon.

Myanmar Ahlin newspaper is published by the News and Periodic enterprise under the Ministry of Information, which has its office in Rangoon’s Natmauk Street in Bahan Township.
