Tokyo to Rangoon direct flights to restart

Thursday, 19 April 2012 12:55 Mizzima News (Mizzima) – All Nippon Airways will resume regular direct flights between Tokyo and Rangoon after halting such flights for 12 years. To serve Japanese business interests, the airline will begin direct flights as soon as possible, Eleven News quoted the airline’s president as saying. Japanese business delegations have made frequent visits to Burma this year. On Friday, President Thein Sein will visit Japan to promote financial investments. Japan is expected to make available substantial development loans to help promote democracy and the economy in Burma. The gist of it was that there was an official message from the Nayptitaw government about plans to ban the export of raw jade stone starting sometime this year. It was part of an alleged scheme to have the country’s new capital become the go-to place for stone-cutting and polishing, giving a desired value-added element to a very important export commodity. Murmurs traveling back and forth along the bamboo telegraph suggest the Myanmar government will enact preferential policies to encourage Chinese jade merchants and jade cutters to enter the country, giving the former discounted land use permits and the latter two-year visas. Max Myanmar enters cement deal

Friday, 19 October 2012 14:05 Mizzima News Max Manufacturing Company of Burma will increase its daily cement production capacity from 500 tonnes now to 2,600 tonnes by the end of next year and 4,200 tonnes in 2014, according to a deal with a Thai company, the Bangkok Post reported on Thursday. The deal involves the renovation of two present cement factories located close to Naypyitaw. Max Cement is a branch of Max Myanmar Group Companies. On-arrival visas to be granted at Mandalay airport

The move comes as Burma is experiencing a surge in foreign arrivals from international airlines eager to establish routes into the country’s international airports. The move follows on-arrival visas at Rangoon International Airport. Both the Mandalay and Rangoon airports are undergoing plans for upgrading and expansion, as tourist arrivals increase in response to Burma’s democratic reforms. In Burma, on-arrival visas started on June 1, 2012, at Rangoon International Airport with five on-arrival visa counters. Later, the number of counters was increased to eight. Nearly 30,000 civilians flee conflicts in Northeastern Burma: UN

Burma’s Supreme Court agrees to hear NLD appeal against dissolution

Friday, 14 January 2011 19:17 Kyaw Kha Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – Burma’s Supreme Court in Naypyidaw on Thursday agreed to hear the National League for Democracy’s final appeal against the dissolution of the party for failing to register prior to the 2010 election. NLD lawyers Nyan Win, Kyi Win and Kyaw Hoe submitted the appeal signed by NLD General-Secretary Aung San Suu Kyi. “Yesterday, we had to await the court’s decision for about two hours, and then the court agreed to hear the appeal’, lawyer Kyaw Hoe told Mizzima. ‘The court gave us a registration number for the lawsuit and said they would inform us when the appeal will be heard’. Junta imposes strict blacklist and reporting mandates on Myanmar’s overseas workforce

Mizzima The military junta’s Ministry of Labour issued a stern warning on 25 March, targeting migrant workers who attempt to bypass official recruitment channels. Under the new directive, workers who submit fraudulent reports such as posing as returning employees on leave to avoid mandatory pre-departure training and medical exams will be blacklisted and prohibited from traveling abroad for a specified period. Both individual workers and the organizations or brokers assisting them will face investigation and prosecution under the 1999 Overseas Employment Law and other relevant regulations.
