Dhaka (Mizzima) - Bangladesh Rifles on Monday opened a new Bangladesh-Burma border gate.

The gate, located about three kilometers north of the town of Teknaf, is the fourth gate to be established on the 150-kilometer Teknaf-Cox’s Bazaar Road.

However, there are over 30 illegal gates along the route, at which authorities generally allow free passage after accepting bribes.

It is expected the gate will expedite the importation of fertilizers into Burma from Bangladesh, with prawn, woods and rice headed in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Bangladesh authorities arrested over 60 Burmese migrants traveling in the border region without permits.
