Spring Revolution Daily News for 5 March 2026

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On March 2, Union Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG had an online meeting with members of the Myanmar community living in the Middle-East region during intensifying military tension there. 
  • In Paungty Township of Bago Region, there was a mine attack on junta troops from Ka-Ma-Ya (10) in Pauktaw Village on their way out for area clearance. According to the People’s Defence Force, 2 junta soldiers died and 3 others were injured. 
  • To raise funds for the force, the PDF based in Bhamo District of Kachin State would like to sell 2 pieces of jade they had confiscated. 
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, the revolution forces carried out a drone attack on the junta army demanding money from the public near Koebin Village. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Naypyidaw, the headquarters of the military junta, there has been a long queue of vehicles for fuel oil. Reportedly, Myawaddy Gas Station, owned by the military junta, near Myoma Market had to close. 
  • For the first time, the UK government is stopping issuing student visas for the nationals from 4 countries including Myanmar. 
  • According to Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, only more than 3,000 political prisoners were freed in a amnesty, but the actual number freed has been questioned. 
  • In Inkapu Township of Ayeyarwady Region, Thein Zaw, a leader of Pyusawti Militia in Konetaungni Village, died of the broken neck as he fell from a tree while picking Gwaydauk leaves. 
  • On X, the U.S FBI posted photos in cooperation with Thai police to combat Kyar Phyant online scam gangs on Thai-Myanmar border. 
  • According to Yangon Khit Thit, the leader of Japanese Yakuza gang, who had attempted to sell nuclear raw material from Myanmar to Iran, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a US court. 
  • In Wetlet Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to 2 local villages. 
  • In Aunglan Township of Magway Region, the junta army fired heavy weapons for three consecutive days into local villages without any battles. Reportedly, thousands of people from 6 villages had to flee. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Falam Township of Chin State, there has been ongoing fighting on a daily basis. According to Chin National Organization/ Chin National Defence Force, some packages of ammunitions, dropped by the junta’s air force, were confiscated. 
  • Deputy Commander in Chief of the Arakan Army Dr. Nyo Tun Aung stated that there would be a lucky draw of 30 prizes for those who had bought his poem book – ‘White Rebel’. 
  • Minbya Youth Association and Kyauktaw Youth Association called for legal action against 4 young people including vocalist Taningari, who had uttered sexually-assaulting words against young Rakhine women. 

The Military Commission 

  • A few weeks prior to forming a new government, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing promoted General Ye Win Oo, one of his pillars, as Commander-in-Chief of the Army. 
  • After the discussion between the US FBI and Thai police to combat Kyar Phyant online scam gangs in Myanmar, the military junta arrested online scammers in Tachileik, Eastern Shan State on March 3. 
  • The military junta cautioned to be thrifty with the use of fuel oil due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. They ordered that starting from March 7, except for EVs, private cars with licence plates ending in even numbers must operate only on even-numbered dates, while odd-numbered plates will be restricted to odd dates. 
  • Myanmar and Russia discussed the matters of a smooth payment process for bilateral trade and investments. 
  • In Mandalay Region, over 47,000 students have registered to take the 2026 matriculation exam. Reportedly, 108 exam centres will be opened. 
  • According to the junta’s Yangon City Development Committee, application must be made by March 10 for butchering licenses for animals such as buffalos, cows, sheep, goats and pigs for 2026-2027 fiscal year. 
  • In the law amending Naypyidaw Council Law, it was mentioned that a member of Naypyidaw Council could be appointed as the Chair of Naypyidaw City Development Committee and the Deputy Mayor. 
  • According to the junta’s amendments, the Municipal Minister in state/ regional governments can be appointed as mayor of a state or region. 
  • The junta’s Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement claimed that the Committee for Myanmar Senior Citizens is to fulfill the rights of the elderly for life development in accordance with the roles and responsibilities contained in the law.
