The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Friday, the Union Resource Management Team-NUG conducted a meeting (2/2026).
  • The responsible personnel of Special Strategic Force (33) of the People’s Defence Force under Ministry of Defence-NUG met with Ye Guerrilla Force.
  • Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw appointed Dr. Achan to be Deputy Minister for Social, Labour and Humanitarian Affairs-NUG.
  • In Minbu Township of Magway Region, revolutionary forces seized control over the junta’s Montaung Police Station. Reportedly, they also confiscated the public’s belongings which the junta members had taken away.

Revolution Activities

  • With the recent loss of the security outpost (666), the junta army has been able to prepare just for defensive actions against the Arakan Army, including the vicinity of No. (16) Defence Equipment Factory.
  • Without efforts for any political progress such as the release of the detainees including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and meetings among stakeholders, the military junta in Myanmar held the election. Regarding this, Japan expressed their criticism.
  • In Bago Region, Falcons Local PDF carried out an attack using a sniper on the junta army on Sittaung River Bridge between Mone and Phyuu Township. Reportedly, 2 junta members died.
  • On January 29, Myanmar and Gambia submitted their final arguments in the hearing at the International Court of Justice. According to the Court House News, it has now reached the important phase for the ICJ to decide whether Myanmar’s treatment of Rohingya people amount to genocide.
  • The US Senate approved the US 2026 Budget Bill, which includes 121 million USD assistance for Myanmar, with 71 affirmative votes and 29 negative votes.
  • António Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, stated that the situation in Myanmar is deteriorating on the 5th anniversary of the military coup.
  • According to Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, the demand for the release of women political prisoners from prolonged solitary confinement was rejected in Dike-U Prison of Bago Region. Additionally, those who had made such request have been kept in solitary confinement as well.
  • In Taungdwingyi Township of Magway Region, there was a guerrilla attack on a car driven by a junta captain in Pyinchaung Village. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 3 others were injured.
  • In Sagaing of Sagaing Region, there were guerrilla attacks on the junta army stationed within and in front of Sagaing University Campus. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • The Secretary General of Chinland Council stated that the military junta had extended military rule in Chin State due to the collapse of their administration.
  • Karen National Union (Central) announced that there had been no fewer than 2,305 battles in the area under the control of the KNU in 2025 and 17 junta camps had been seized in 2025.
  • The Chair of the KNU asserted that the junta’s action to hold onto power is not acceptable at all and it is necessary to sharply reject it.

The Military Commission

  • With an excuse of river clearance for flood prevention under Bala Min Htin Bridge in Myitkyina under the order of the junta’s Kachin State Government, there have been gold mining activities, according to local people.
  • According to the junta’s Union Election Commission, the army-proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party won 341 seats for Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyothar Hluttaw, which enabled them to form a new government.
  • Myanmar delegation requested the ICJ to reject all the demands, including compensation, proposed by Gambia as they are not in a strong legal position.
  • According to the junta’s Ministry of Construction, Doattawaddy Bridge, which was hit by the major earthquake at Mile Post 358/1 on Yangon-Mandalay Highway, is being reconstructed with earthquake-resilience technology.
  • In Karen State, a Flying Zipline cable slide and train services were opened in the Natural Park of Mount Barme.
