The National Unity Government (NUG)
- The spokesperson of Union Prime Minister Office-NUG U Nay Phone Latt told Mizzima that the NUG had been discussing with ethnic armed forces and other revolutionary forces to establish a new organization.
- The military junta have been spreading a rumour that the Acting President of the NUG Duwa Lashi La was assassinated and he had to receive medical treatment. U Nay Phone Latt called to take special caution regarding such fake news and false information.
- U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that despite repeated requests, the UN and the Security Council had failed to stop the junta’s violence against the Myanmar people.
Revolution Activities
- In Pulaw Township of Tanintharyi Region, there has been intense military tension between the junta army and the revolutionary forces. Reportedly, the junta soldiers have raided local villages and burnt public’s houses.
- In Magway Region, a junta troop of about 200 soldiers have been invading the border of Pakkoku and Myaing since January 27. Reportedly, over 4,000 residents of 5 villages had to flee.
- In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, the People’s Defence Forces attacked a troop of about 150 junta soldiers and Pyusawti members invading near Chaungmagyi Village in Minkun Area. Reportedly, no fewer than 10 junta members died and the junta troop withdrew in chaos.
- In a report “Nowhere is Safe” by Fortify Rights on Wednesday, it called to take action against the crimes of the military junta and the junta leader through the international judiciary mechanism.
- According to the People’s Goal, up to 16 junta soldiers, police and militia members joined the public and 22 others were caught as prisoners of war in the third week of January 2026.
- Amnesty International, Fortify Rights and Human Rights Watch issued a warning on Thursday that the military junta has been committing violence more harshly as it approaches the fifth anniversary of the military coup.
- The ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights strongly condemned the announcement of the junta-proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party as the winner. They also regarded the result as illegitimate.
- The crisis of Myanmar’s civil war was the main topic of discussion at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers (AMM) Meeting in Cebu City of the Philippines.
- In Tanintharyi Region, there were drone attacks at Longlone Myoma Police Station and the junta’s Military Security Office for three consecutive days. Reportedly, 6 junta members including a second police officer died.
Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)
- Kachin Independence Organization/ Kachin Independence Army organized a collective wedding reception for 16 couples from the staff.
- In Pulaw Township of Tanintharyi Region, Karen National Liberation Army Brigade (4) Special Force burnt over 50,000 tablets of narcotic substance seized in the area.
- The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State announced that a special investigation committee would be set up for full responsibility and accountability to take action against the case of the junta’s prisoners of war who had escaped from the prison.
- According to the IEC, 2 former policemen from the correctional department, who had been detained, led in the escape at Mese Prison in Karenni State.
- The supporters and officers from the PDF (33) participated in the basic refresher course organized by the Mon State Revolutionary Force.
The Military Commission
- After the military-proxy USDP won a majority of seats in the junta’s election, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing increased the budget for the MPs and the administration members of self-administered areas.
- In the south of Myawaddy Township in Karen State, there has been heavy fighting between the junta army and a combined force of the KNLA between Falu Village and Minletpan Village. On Wednesday morning, the junta army dropped no fewer than five 500-pound bombs via fighter jets.
- China has executed 11 members of the notorious Ming family criminal gang, who ran mafia-like scam centres in Myanmar and killed workers who tried to escape, Chinese state media reported.
- In the junta’s aerial bombing on Falu Area in Karen State, some buildings of Democratic Karen Benevolent Army were hit and damaged.
- According to the junta’s Road Transportation Administration Department, the online booking system, suspended for vehicle registration extensions and driving license tests, would resume in February.
- On Wednesday, the junta’s Central Bank stated that 23 million USD would be sold to fuel oil importers.
- The junta’s Yangon Regional Investment Committee approved of three new local and foreign investments.
