The National Unity Government (NUG)
- In Sagaing Region, the People’s Defence Forces carried out an attack on the Kanttalu Inspection Gate near the junta’s Ta-Ma-Ka Regiment (33) on Thursday night.
- Yezagyo Township PDF assassinated a local Pyusawti leader named Nga Linn, a nephew of a former general Soe Maung.
- The Ministry of Social, Labour and Humanitarian Affairs-NUG stated that there had been four fairly-strong earthquakes in Mandalay Region from January 1 to 17.
- In the combatant refresher course conducted by the Special Regional Command under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, Comrade Naung Yoe, a focal person of Yangon Regional PDF, provided political training.
- Bago Region People’s Defence Organization encouraged and supported the displaced in Bago Region.
Revolution Activities
- On Friday, Myanmar geologists stated that Myitsone Dam Project should not be implemented at all as it could have negative impacts on the country.
- Jessica Jones, a lawyer from Gambia, stated that senior officials and other members of Myanmar military junta had been defaming Rohingya people and uttering hate speech for a long time.
- In Yangon, the military junta arrested 29 passers-by in public within two weeks.
- After the battle of Tawgywe-In in Kyaukdagar Township of Bago Region, the junta armed forces have been invading the area. Reportedly, local residents from no fewer than 10 villages have had to flee.
- Tom Andrews, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, sent a letter to Kristi Noem, the Minister of the US Homeland Security Department, calling to reject the revocation of the TPS status of Myanmar nationals in the USA.
- In Daegu of South Korea, there was a protest against the Myanmar military dictatorship.
Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)
- In Myeik, Dawei and Duplaya District under control of Karen National Union, the public protested against the junta’s sham election.
The Military Commission
- On Friday, U Ko Ko Hlaing, the junta’s Union Minister, called on the International Court of Justice to review all the evidence in detail carefully and make its own judgement about the findings. He added that Myanmar believes the Court will carry out the case in an independent and unbiased manner.
- The junta’s Minister stated that Myanmar Army had not committed genocide against Rohingya people and they had just carried out a counter-operation against terrorism.
- On Friday, the junta’s Ambassador to China presented his credentials to the President of China.
- The junta’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, U Hau Khan Sum, summoned Mr. Elísio do Rosário de Sousa, Chargé d’Affaires from the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Yangon, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The warning comes after reports emerged that President of Timor-Leste met with the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) on January 14 regarding a criminal complaint against Myanmar military leaders to Public Prosecutor’s Office in Timor-Leste.
- In Three Pagoda Pass of KyarIn Seikgyi Township in Karen State, a girl aged 15 was allegedly raped by four people including the ward administrator.
- The junta’s Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Kyaw Swa Lin received a delegation led by GOC of the Indian Army’s 3 Corps Lieutenant-General AS Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM.
