The National Unity Government (NUG)
- In Sagaing Region, Yinmabin District People’s Administration announced that traveling on the Chindwin River would be temporarily banned from January 16 to 27 in Kani Township.
- The Labour Bureau-NUG stated that they had conducted the second discussion to create job opportunities for Myanmar nationals staying in Mae Sot on Thai-Myanmar border for various reasons, provide humanitarian assistance and help with their stability.
- In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, Monywa District Force (4) conducted an attack via remote mines on the junta soldiers on secret patrol on Monywa-Mandalay Road demanding money from the public.
- The focal persons of Yangon Regional People’s Defence Force handed over uniforms, hats and boots, obtained via 1500-lakh Campaign, to the financial focal person of Northern District PDF.
Revolution Activities
- In Minkin Township of Sagaing Region, there was a guerrilla attack on the junta army invading the area. According to a representative of the Students’ Revolutionary Force, there were casualties among no fewer than 5 junta soldiers.
- In the eastern and western parts of Bago Region, there have been local battles between the junta army and a combination of defence forces at 26 locations.
- Citing a report by United States Institute of Peace, lawyer Arsalan Suleman stated that the Myanmar military junta still has been spreading hate speech via social media platforms such as Facebook and Telegram, relating anti-coup movements with Islam.
- 99 civil society organizations released a joint statement with strong condemnation against the diplomatic visit of the Philippines government with the Myanmar military junta. They also stated that it did not comply with the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus.
- On Thursday, Douglas (Doug) Sonnek assumed duties as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim (CDA a.i.) at the U.S. Embassy in Yangon.
- In Taungdwingyi Township of Magway Region, there was an attack at the junta army stationing in Pyinchaung Village. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died, another one was injured and 5 guns were confiscated.
- The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2026 spending bills, including 121 million USD to assist Myanmar, with 341 positive votes and 79 negative votes.
- According to the Burmese Women Union, 792 women lost their lives and 815 others were injured due to the junta’s violence including aerial bombings in 2025.
- In Chaung-U of Sagaing Region, the revolution forces carried out attacks via rockets and drones on the junta armed forces in town.
Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)
- The responsible persons stated that the merger of 4 revolutionary forces in southern Chin State would allow local representatives to be able to carry out local governance, judiciary activities and public services more effectively.
- Chin People’s Army stated that recently-formed Spring Revolution Alliance would soon carry out operations in Magway and Sagaing as an effort for the liberation of the union.
- CDF KKG stated that 12 of their comrades had sacrificed their lives in local battles in Kalay Township of Sagaing Region within four months.
The Military Commission
- According to the junta’s Labour Department, PJ passport and CI holders returning from abroad must inform the arrival counter at the airport without fail.
- On Friday, the junta propaganda newspapers announced the names of 52 winners for the second-phase election and the results. Reportedly, most elected candidates are from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).
- At the Youth Peace Forum 2026 organized by the military junta, junta-pillar youth drew up a youth declaration.
- After an earthquake with Richter Scale 5.1 in Mandalay Region on January 15, the junta’s Ministry of Social Welfare issued guidelines to prepare for an earthquake disaster and provide emergency contact numbers.
- According to the junta’s Rakhine State Government, 18 buildings of 45x30ft are being built at Sethamagyi IDP Camp in Sittway Township.
