Sein Lwin, the deputy leader of the notorious Pyu Saw Htee militia in Myingyan and husband of its leader Thida Yu Mon, was arrested on drug charges by revolutionary forces on 14 January.
The arrest was carried out by Company 2 of Myingyan District Battalion 3 while Sein Lwin was reportedly traveling to Bagan for a vacation. At the time of the arrest, resistance fighters seized 200 WY methamphetamine pills and official certificates issued by the military junta identifying him as a deputy leader of the Myingyan Pyu Saw Htee group.
Following the arrest, the militia’s primary leader, Thida Yu Mon, reportedly led a desperate search through Myingyan town in a convoy of three vehicles, inspecting KTVs and restaurants in an attempt to locate her husband.
An official from Myingyan District Battalion 3 described the scene as chaotic, noting, “They are searching for the person we arrested in KTVs. It’s like a rabbit running one way while the dog chases another.”
The battalion has issued a stern warning to Thida Yu Mon, cautioning that her husband’s arrest should not be used as a pretext to harass or disturb the residents of Myingyan.
Thida Yu Mon, a former restaurant performer, rose to notoriety after the 2021 military coup by forming a pro-junta militia group that has been accused of frequent atrocities, including looting, arson, and the killing of civilians in Myingyan District.
Local sources report that she has even fortified her own residence with bunkers and detention cells. The arrest of her husband and deputy is seen as a significant blow to the group’s local influence.
