Mizzima awarded global JTI certificate for reliable news on Myanmar

Mining ministry announces new gem permits

Myanmar's Ministry of Mining has announced that new gem mining permits will be issued at 1 million kyat (US $1,167) per gem mine block.

The permits for new gem mines in Mogoke, Mineshu and Nanyar Sate will be issued in accordance with the Myanmar gems law, according to a statement issued by the ministry on February 11.

Permits for old jade mine blocks that expired during January, February and May will be renewed; while those for new jade mine blocks will be issued soon.

Local private companies and cooperatives must be able to prove a strong financial background and attach bank statements from the Myanma Economic Bank or a private bank that is authorized by the government to apply for the permit.

Application forms can be submitted to the Gems & Jewelry Head Office and Gems Museum in Naypyitaw from February 18 to March 19.
