An information and communication technology (ICT) exhibition will unfold in Rangoon on Saturday, involving more than 30 international ICT businesses.
The Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF) said on Monday the International Myanmar ICT Exhibition 2012 is an ICT business-matching event that would create great opportunities for networking between international and Burmese businesses in the telecoms and ICT, banking, manufacturing, trade and hospitality sectors.
The international ICT providers will show their products to over a hundred local businesses expected to attend the event, which will feature 121 booths from businesses in the United States, China, Taiwan, Israel and Singapore.
It is expected to draw up to a hundred thousand visitors.
In September, Mizzima reported that Burma’s State Posts and Telecommunication (MPT) has worked out a plan to turn over telecommunications to four private operators.
Under a privatization process, the MPT would be abolished and reformed as Myanmar Telecom, which would then operate as a private company.
Yatanarpon Teleport would be merged into a new company called Yatanarpon Telecom.
Two more private companies, which could be foreign firms, would be included to offer mobile connections, land-line telephones, a public switchboard telephone network, information technology and internet services.
A telecom corporation would be established by the end of the year and then MPT will call for international tenders, according to reports.
Meanwhile, a law to govern the privatization of telecommunications was expected to be enacted by the end of the year.
