Burma’s marine export increased 11 per cent in the first three months (April-June) of the 2012-13 fiscal year to US$ 12.597 million, official media said this week.
According to government statistics, Burma’s marine export accounted for $522 million in 2011-12.
Of the total during the three-month period, marine export through air routes amounted to $74.876 million; through the Myeik border point, $25.154 million; Muse $14.967 million; Kawthaung, $5.710 million; Myawaddy, $2.431 million; and Maungtaw, $1.206 million.
In May, the export declined as some fish cold storage factories in Rangoon stopped operations due to electrical power cuts during the month.
There are more than 70 fish cold storage factories in Rangoon, of which only 23 are in operation, the article reported.
