Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – Prominent Burmese composer Maung Thit Min, 58, died of colon cancer in Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday morning.
Maung Thit Min aka Daiwa had suffered from colon cancer since November 2010.
His youngest son, Kate Teet, said, ‘He struggled alone. His struggle was apparent after our mother died'.
Kate Teet said he was not able to accompany his father to the hospital. ‘The goodbye I said when I saw him off at the airport was the last time I saw him. My most depressing thought was that he could not attend my graduation ceremony’, Kate Teet said.
Kate Teet, 22, is in his final year at the Defence Services Medical Academy.
Maung Thit Min also wrote poems and fiction. He entered the Burmese literary world in 1971. In 1977, he wrote a novel, ‘A Bird that Hides its Feeling’, and he wrote a song with the same title that was sung by Khaing Htoo.
A colleague, Ko Ko Lwin, the secretary of the Music Association, said, ‘His most famous song was ‘A Bird that Hides its Feeling’. He wrote the music too. Later, he created lyrics for copycat versions of foreign songs. A famous song was ‘The Nearest One’. Even his lyrics to the copycat version of foreign songs were very philosophical. He was a respected composer’.
Maung Thit Min is survived by three sons. He was cremated in Bangkok, and his ashes will be returned to Burma.
