Myanmar imports 130,000 cars in 15 months

The Myanmar Customs Department has announced a huge increase in car imports over the past 15 months.

“From October 25, 2011, to January 25, 2013, a total of 129,517 imported cars were taxed at Myanmar’s ports,” said an official from the customs department.

Of the cars issued with custom duty and consumption tax: 61,553 were used cars; 26,923 were for car showrooms; 2,818 were issued for seamen; 286 for the Foreign Ministry; 728 for company permits; 40 for overseas workers; 1,990 for Ministry of Hotel and Tourism; 108 for military attachés; and, 35,071 on free permits.
