The US Geological Survey (USGS) has confirmed that a 5.9-magnitude earthquake has hit the Burmese-Indian border area. There have been no reports of casualties from what is a sparsely populated region.
The tremor struck at 08:11 local time on Wednesday at a depth of 75 km. The epicenter is estimated by the USGS to be some 90 km from Kohima, the capital of India’s Nagaland.
The Indian-Burmese border region is the site of frequent seismic activity.
