Chiang Mai (Mizzima) – Burmese President Thein Sein’s website said on Friday he gave instructions to officials that the government needs a “second-level strategy” that is “citizen-centered.”
According to the website, the president said he wanted officials to give high priority to helping and protecting citizens and to avoid bribery and corruption.
The president also urged officials to make changes to attract international aid money, technology and human resources in order to development the country faster. In the past, Burma has had to rely mainly only on the country’s revenues.
The president said the government would form a body called the Myanmar Social and Economic Advisory Council to participate in recommending changes for the country.
He said the government should also help Burmese scholars, experts, businessmen and immigrant workers return to Burma if they need help in returning.
Vice President Sai Mauk Kham, Lower House Deputy Speaker Nanda Kyaw Swar, union ministers and chief ministers of states and regions and chiefs of self-administered zones attended the meeting.
Vice President Tin Aung Myint Oo, who is said to have resigned his position for health reasons, did not attend the meeting.
Upper House Speaker Khin Aung Myint and Deputy Speaker Mya Nyein are on an official visit to Japan, and Lower House Speaker Thura Shwe Mann and other officials are in Europe.
