Gunmen loot jewellery store in central Burma, kill one

Chiang Mai – One person was killed and two injured after three gunmen broke into a jewellery shop in Yameathin town market in central Burma and looted gold ornaments on Wednesday.

In a daring robbery, the gunmen came on motorcycles at about 4:00 p.m. (local time) before the shop closed, entered and looted jewellery. The armed robbers fled on the motorcycles and on their way shot a man and took his motorbike. The man died.

A family member of the shop owner told Mizzima that the robbers looted more than 11 kilograms of gold.

Two others were injured in the indiscriminate firing and over six kilograms of gold was taken away, reports Mizzima’s correspondent,

A person sustained injuries on his thigh while another received gunshot wounds on the shoulder.

Mizzima’s correspondent, quoting local police said, the robbery was the first and worst in over 100 years in Yameathinn, a peaceful town in Mandalay division.

The robbers are still at large.
