Aung San Suu Kyi will visit a Burmese community in Fort Wayne next month during her trip to the US, activists in the Indiana Burmese community said on Tuesday.
The democracy advocate will be in Fort Wayne on Sept. 25, where she will deliver a public speech at Memorial Coliseum, Burmese Advocacy Center director Minn Myint Nan Tin said in a statement.
About 4,000 Burmese natives live in the Fort Wayne area, one of the largest concentrations in the US.
Suu Kyi has also scheduled a speaking trip to the San Francisco bay area, where the largest number of Burmese natives live in the US, estimated around 8,000 residents.
On Sept. 19, Suu Kyi will be in Washington, D.C., to accept the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress' highest civilian honor. She also will be honored in New York with the Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award on Sept. 21.
The State Department has said Suu Kyi will be invited for meetings with US government officials during her visit.
